Concept Designs for Alien Planets - July Exercises

Making time to upskill in areas I need to is not easy to do. I think I always want to get better no matter what I do / have done, I've always wanted a to be the best I could be. Even when I flipped burgers for 10 years at the golden archers. I wanted to flip the best and wrap the best and serve the best. It's who I am. So when I started doing art again after not drawing more than a few skulls in 15 years and at school only. I took on a challenge. 7 years ago I just wanted to do the best I could and better than yesterday. Now I can Art whatever and whenever I want. Here are 4 paintings I have done in my spare moments in the past two weeks. This is a new record for me and keen to keep this up to get to some #blizzard#weta #nickkeller #whitecloudworlds levels of #kickass in the near future. 01) The Place that is Unknown - My first exercise I wanted to show scale and distance and have some stars that are believable: 

 02)The Vision of Invasion - Wars may be going on in galaxies we have no idea about between species and life forms we have yet to see. War and Democracy are not friends but they are close allies no matter what side you are on.

03)The Larvich Alien Invasion - Earth is being invaded and nothing can be done to stop Larvich Nation and interplanetary domination. This is what two worlds look like when they are about to collide head on.

Working on some new textures and brushes in preparation for some exciting new projects I have coming up. Sky, Fire, Environment interaction and Space textures. These are brushes I have picked over the last few weeks and starting to use more of Photoshop and it's endless capabilities with fresh new approaches.

04) The Unsettling Turbid Gateways - On the planet Grududor is a gateway/wormhole to other galaxies. But as humans we can never go or see it because the elements are far to harsh for most things within our galaxy. This is the forth addition to my set of conceptual design and artwork. It has been so beneficial doing these exercises to push my skills to the next level digitally.

Stranger Things - collectable cards - series one

I like many got totally sucked in to the amazing Netflix original STRANGER THINGS. It is cinematic full of characters you love and the essence of friendship in the 80's. I was there, I can remember. The music and overall score is just beautiful and has that neon feel.  I wanted to collect cards that do not exist so I took some time to mock up what I would imagine they would look like. I can smell that cheap gum. I made sure they are all textured and look worn. I was a big fan of many collectable cards, WWF, TMNT, Dick Tracey, Goonies you name it I loved them.

DISENTOMB HAVE BEEN A FAVOURITE FOR SOME TIME NOW SO THIS WAS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I PUT THE TWO TOGETHER. ALL THE LADS IN THE BAND LOVED IT SO MUCH THE DECIDED TO SHARE IT ACROSS ALL THEIR SOCIAL PAGES.

I loved adding all the details of the tattoos on Beavis and Butthead including their sweet shoes too!

FORBIDDEN CIDER CO.

Working for this Family cider company has been amazing and a dream come true for many years. We learned on the run what works and what does not but ultimately I have always felt there is no wrongs just the best of my ability at the time. Over time I have really made this brand and its look appealing and still with all the integrity and not destroying what we have already built. Two things stayed  visually and one got a trade mark. SIMPLY APPLE CIDER and LADY PINK CIDER tm  have only had minor tweaks over the years. This has become the backbone of the four core products that we want to see on shelf and can see all over New Zealand.

All Art from the first idea to pencil to Photoshop is by me. All LAYOUTS have been put there by me Mr Leon Taylor because I like to make sure quality the entire time and I trust my process. I communicate with Label companies, Make sure the best files are used for all types of media while  monitoring the overall look of the brand.

We can finally say we have built something recieving a dozen awards over the past three years including Champion Cider of New Zealand at The Brewers Guild awards at the end of 2015 for SIMPLY APPLE.

Then add a white behind the linework making some parts grey to show a light source.

That was an exercise that got out of hand. But am very happy with the result and will be selling A4 prints at OVERLOADNZ 24th September 2016.
