KAIJU vs JAGER - Pacific Rim Fan-Art 2015 - BACKGROUND PROCESS

This was a collaboration by Me ( Mr Leon Taylor) and Matt Haworth for the Event Overload NZ
I put together a rough compostion of the area with the background and Kaiju, that I later sent to Matt and who later roughed in the Jager in before we decided on the composition. I wanted to make mine aggressive as possible and charging at the Jager after he had made his way through the city.

KAIJU vs JAGER - Pacific Rim Fan-Art 2015
Below is the finished piece, to follow is the rough and process I have taken through the collaboration.

The rough Design and composition I drew up, that Matt Haworth later inserted his WW2 style Jager.

The First pieces of Line-work for the huge Kaju vs the Photoshopped Coloured Version with light bounce and elements be fore adding to the background.

- BACKGROUND PROCESS-

1)Get the prespective ready and general landscape.

2) Add inn intial light  and lights in city.

3) Map out the distruction from where the Kaju has come from and add moon and background lightining.

4) Work on clouds and light source and smoke over the city.

5) Add the cold vs warm tones to match Characters and add contrast to the battle.

6) Clean up city area make it feel like it has more depth and a shore line give the clouds more volume.

7)  Burn that city down, make it feel like terror has been and that it is about to colapse and add movement in the ocean where the Jager and Kaju will be.

8) Add the rays of light that will be hitiing our characters.

9) Insert Kaju and then look work with Matt on a final composition.

This was a great challenge and I got so much from it. I live to collaborate and especially with people who have a similar background and love to finishing projects.

Otentacle Supreme - 2015 - Mr Leon Taylor - 30 second TIMELAPSE VIDEO

Otentacle Supreme -
What does it mean to you? Colour will makes this very intense. So it is always rad to hear your thoughts before. This is the scanned in drawing from my time-lapse video I made and then later coloured in photoshop.Timelapse VIDEO - Pencil rules everything around me.

BASIC COLOUR - before the textures are applied.

The Word of God is Powerful - 2015 - WARNING BRUTAL IMAGE

This may appear to be just a Zombie. But is actually a man gone mad from the word of God. So much so he ripped his own jaw off to try and stop his ramblings. But all it did was just turn him in to a bleeding gargling mess. The word of God is more powerful than even God could have truly known.

1) photos of the pencil line-work.

2) Screen shot of the bleeding wounds

3) Final result - PNG

The Puppet Sorcerer - THE DEADFLESH CULT - Speed paint

I really wanted to make a super group of characters with the idea behind it taking Japanese style prints of actors. My love for things that tend to rot and a new way of attacking the digital painting side of things. I use a technique I adopted from learning 3D animation and "texturing" my concept. This makes the skin appear more legitimate and overall. More rotten. Here is my first character and mastermind of attack THE PUPPET SORCERER.

1) Main texture

2) Decide on a colour palate

3) Basic colour added texture and minor light source / shadow
4) Match colours to suit using hue and saturation
5) Work on minor details
6) Add more shadows and detail to add depth.
7) Slight adjustments with the colour / hue.

3 versions of the same piece. In card, Facebook quality and instagram quality.

ACNZ group project "STARFISH" - Term 4 week eight Part 1 of 1

FINAL WEEK. The film was rendered out over the weekend. We compiled the film in after effects and found the timing was working. We were feeling confident.

We spent all of Monday making sure all the renders had all the assets. We only had to re-render one small scene not effecting the production flow at all.

I went to my friend who is a sound engineer later that night to write the score. We completed it by midnight on Monday night. To have it ready for Tuesday deadline.

I am very happy and pleased with the final submission. We also put a "making of" so we could see all our hardwork and illustrate the work that was involved for our short film.

This has been a wild ride for our small group of people applying our animation skills. Some for only the 3rd - 4th time. So they have all been a pleasure to work with. all have taken my critiques and done a better job.

Please take the time to enjoy our short film. It is for everyone to enjoy, of all ages.

Enjoy.

The BIG EARS Basketball team

I am in my first year of CGI animation after 3 years of studying and applying traditional animation. So character designs I have done before and am still learning a lot about it. Forever learning and up skilling. All the character designs I had done before were only used in 2D/traditional/toon boom animation.

Most of the same things apply in CGI animation. Over the years I have read a lot about CGI and even seen others learn it. I have even watched videos regarding MAYA. It didnt make to much sense, but somehow knew it would make sense eventually.

Then suddenly it's all making a lot more sense. Every day. Starting to get really excited about it too. I understand there are many hurdles. But having idea how long the race is, is helping get clarity.
